Overview

The American Heart Association is a leading force in promoting heart health and reducing the impact of cardiovascular diseases. We invite applications for a Development Director within our Western States Region, based in Los Angeles, California. This role plays a crucial part in driving revenue growth and expanding our impact across the region.

This position directly oversees the Go Red For Women campaign in Los Angeles County and shares accountability for achieving overall goals for the Los Angeles Division and the Western States region. Key responsibilities include ensuring that revenue targets are met through developing new relationships and cultivating existing ones, as well as driving revenue and health impact goals by effectively engaging volunteers, partners, and staff across diverse opportunities.

We operate in a fast-paced sales environment with a focus on driving revenue in support of our mission. Our base salary offers potential for an incentive up to 25% of your base pay, dependent on achieving certain revenue targets.

Responsibilities

  • Manage relationships with current and prospective individuals and companies to reach fundraising goals, applying best practices to drive sustainable growth.
  • Lead and participate in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and managing new individual philanthropic and corporate sponsorship relationships, including researching potential donors and developing strategic plans to secure their involvement.
  • Drive the ongoing process of recruiting and activating influential volunteer leadership to support campaigns on a sustained basis, including engaging fundraising chairs and leadership teams to champion achievement of identified goals.
  • Develop and implement strategies and initiatives aligned with revenue generation and volunteer leadership engagement, driving campaign growth through effective donor cultivation and integration across Association initiatives.
  • Establish year-round pipelines and cultivation plans for individual donors and corporate accounts, ensuring sufficient depth for revenue generation and excellent customer relations.
  • Manage customer and campaign information accurately and timely using Association systems according to established guidelines.
  • Ensure timely communication with internal and external partners and customers, supporting collaboration in account management and activities to achieve shared goals.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in fundraising, sales, or equivalent type experience.
  • Ability to travel daily up to 75% locally, requiring reliable transportation at all times.
  • Ability to lift and/or move large objects, such as boxes, while requesting assistance when necessary.
  • Basic knowledge and skill/proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Compensation & Benefits

The expected annual salary range is $66,700 to $80,000, with potential incentives based on achieving specific targets. Pay is commensurate with experience, and geographic differentials may apply.
