Job Summary:

As a Laboratory Accessioning Specialist at PathGroup, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory. Your primary responsibility will be to accession and process gynecological and non-gynecological specimens as they arrive in the laboratory. This will involve performing routine stain maintenance on manual and automated stain devices, processing routine gyn and non-gyn cytology specimens, and applying special stain techniques using both manual and automated methods.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Accession and process gynecological and non-gynecological specimens in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Perform routine stain maintenance on manual and automated stain devices to ensure optimal performance.
  • Process routine gyn and non-gyn cytology specimens and apply special stain techniques as required.
  • Adhere to all PBM Safety policies and regulations, as well as those of local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.
  • Handle infectious biological specimens, caustics, toxic chemicals, and irritants safely and appropriately.
  • Learn and apply computer-related applications and programs, including electronic keyboards and other peripheral devices.
  • Ensure timely distribution of completed patient materials to assigned pathologists.
  • Notify supervisory personnel of malfunctioning instrumentation immediately.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and maintain the integrity of patient information and results.
  • Utilize automated lab equipment properly according to lab procedures and manufacturers' instructions.
  • Maintain competency through web-based Standard Operating Procedure updates and educational modules.
  • Cross-train in other areas as assigned or requested.

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • One to two years of prior job-related experience preferred.
