Medical Laboratory Specialist, Clinical Testing

This Medical Laboratory Specialist position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the clinical testing process in a dynamic healthcare environment. As part of our team at Prisma Health, you will play a vital role in ensuring accurate and timely test results for patients.
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Specialist to join our laboratory team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting routine and stat laboratory tests, performing related duties, and following established standards and practices under limited supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct Tests with Precision: Perform analyses using appropriate procedures with precision and accuracy, operating instruments and equipment accurately, and evaluating results to ensure validity before reporting values.
- Specimen Collection and Processing: Use correct technique, policy, and protocol in collecting and processing specimens, verifying patient identification, and properly labeling specimens.
- Instructing and Training: Instruct new employees, students, and residents in procedure, technique, and theory, documenting proficiency, and informing section leaders or managers of training issues.
- Maintaining Work Area: Restock items, maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner, document supply receipts, monitor expiration dates, and follow established protocols.
- Quality Control and Assurance: Review pending logs, OSR worksheets, etc., for accuracy and completeness, take necessary actions, and ensure proper retention of specimens.
- Safety and Compliance: Observe and respond correctly to safety violations, report personal exposure to hazardous situations, use lab biosafety levels, universal precautions guidelines, and available safety equipment when needed.
- Organizational Skills: Employ good organizational talents, prioritize tasks, utilize time efficiently, report results in a timely manner, and observe meal and break periods according to workload and schedule.
- Critical Values Reporting: Report critical values according to Laboratory policy and document verbal reports.
- Professional Development: Document personal CE attendance and presentations, complete all objectives from previous evaluations, and complete required competencies in the required time frame.
Requirements:
- An Associate's Degree or equivalent Medical Laboratory Technology Program degree that meets ASCP or AMT requirements.
- No experience required, but completion of a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training course (per DD214) can be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
Work Environment:
This Medical Laboratory Specialist position is located at Prisma Health's Tuomey Hospital campus in Sumter, SC. The estimated salary for this role is around $45,000-$60,000 per year, depending on experience.
