About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Nurse Oncologist to join our team at American Oncology Management Company. This is a full-time opportunity that requires the candidate to have a nursing degree, an unencumbered RN license in the state of employment or multi-state license, and current CPR and BLS certifications.
Job Summary
The Nurse Oncologist will provide safe, accurate, and efficient patient care, including but not limited to: patient assessment, review of labs and vital signs, medication safety, dose verification, and drug administration. The candidate must be able to assess patient needs and condition effectively, with strong critical thinking skills and the ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Care: Safely and accurately administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy, supportive care, and non-oncologic agents to patients as ordered by providers, following Oncology Nurse's Society (ONS) standards and guidelines.
- Biohazardous Waste Disposal: Accurately and safely dispose of biohazardous waste per OSHA and NIOSH guidelines.
- New and Ongoing Patient Education: Provide new and ongoing patient education, continual patient assessment, and support.
- Documentation: Document thoroughly, accurately, and timely in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) of treatment rendered to patients, ensuring appropriate charges are captured by following guidelines for appropriate administration of all medications and activities.
- Teaching: Educate patients and caregivers about medications, side effects, and planned treatment course, interacting with patients and family in a caring and professional manner.
- Telephone Triage: Prioritize incoming calls and messages from patients, family members, hospitals, nursing facilities, pharmacies, and physician offices from emergent to non-urgent, responding accordingly in an appropriate time frame.
- Supplies: Assist with inventory and re-stocking medical supplies, recommending purchase of new items as needed, placing stock in storage areas in a timely manner.
- Safety and Nursing Trainings: Complete annual required safety and nursing trainings.
- Mandatory Staff Meetings: Attend all mandatory staff meetings as necessary.
- Confidentiality: Maintain and ensure the confidentiality of all patient and employee information.
- Training New Employees: Assist in training new employees related to job duties according to Job Breakdown Instructions (JBIs).
Requirements
- Nursing Degree: Bachelor's or Master's degree in nursing.
- Certifications/Licenses: Unencumbered RN license in the state of employment or multi-state license, current CPR and BLS certifications, valid Driver's License, and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations as needed.
- Previous Experience: Experience with hematology/oncology patients in a clinic or hospital setting, with the ability to assess patient needs and condition effectively, having strong critical thinking skills, and the ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Compensation Package
The estimated salary for this role is between $27.81 and $51.64 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
