Design Engineer Role Overview

Collins Aerospace, a Raytheon Technologies company, is seeking a highly skilled Design Engineer to join our Advanced Product Development Team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and developing cutting-edge aviation interior products that meet the highest standards of quality, functionality, and safety.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design ownership: Oversee product development from initial concept to production readiness.
  • Mechanical design: Design components and assemblies (mechanical and electro-mechanical) with a focus on manufacturability, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Engineering calculations: Perform calculations to determine the size and strength of components.
  • Problem solving and validation: Solve design problems and verify computations contributing to analytical designs.
  • CAD work: Prepare, modify, and release drawings created in CAD (Siemens NX) to verify the fit, form, and function of mechanical designs.
  • Structural verification: Test prototypes for reliability and FAA certification through dynamic crash testing to ensure structural acceptability.
  • Engineering tools utilization: Use engineering tools such as FMEAs, FEA, and DFMA to validate design content.
  • Material and part evaluation: Evaluate materials and parts for use in new designs, including communication with current and new suppliers.
  • Team collaboration: Operate in a team environment with input from other functional areas and participate in design reviews.
Requirements:
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field or in absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in the design of commercial aircraft seating products.
  • Experience in using Siemens NX or other 3D CAD software.
  • Experience working with Teamcenter or other Product Data Manager (PDM) tools.
  • Experience working with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles.
  • Familiarity with FAA requirements is a plus.
  • Previous experience in new product development is a plus.
