We are seeking a highly skilled Publishing Visionary to lead our literary journal, Ploughshares, as Editor-in-Chief. This open-rank faculty position in Writing, Literature and Publishing offers a unique opportunity to combine editorial expertise with academic responsibilities.

About the Role

This full-time, year-round position is based on our Boston campus and requires a strong vision for the future of literary publishing, including reaching new audiences digitally and in print. The successful candidate will manage operations, supervise staff, and recruit guest editors while contributing to the excellence and diversity of our academic community through teaching, mentoring, and service activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic direction for Ploughshares, ensuring its continued stature and reach.
  • Manage year-round operations, supervising three full-time staff members and auxiliary staff.
  • Recruit and collaborate with guest editors to maintain high-quality content.
  • Teach one course per year, helping to develop curriculum integration between Ploughshares and Department course offerings.
  • Support recruitment, admission, and student mentorship as a member of the Department of Writing, Literature and Publishing.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree or substantial publications/experience equivalent to a terminal degree.
  • At least five years of editorial experience, preferably in literary publishing.
  • A demonstrated ability to manage people, set goals, and work with budgets.
  • Experience in teaching and mentoring students, ideally in a professional or academic setting.
Estimated Salary Range

$80,000 - $110,000 per annum, commensurate with experience.
