Job Summary

The Animal Technologist plays a vital role in the care and well-being of research animals at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide animal clinical care and treatment as prescribed by the ARF Technical Services Manager/Supervisor and the Attending Veterinarian.
  • Identify animals by ear punch, ear tag number, or toe clip.
  • Assist in packing and shipping sentinel animals to Charles River Laboratories for diagnostic testing.
  • Maintain accurate records, including animal health records, technical service records, and electronic cage cards.
  • Assist in separating overcrowded cages and transcribing correct animal information onto cage cards/ECCs.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Services Manager and Principal Technologist on Intramural and LC Quarantine Animal Transfers.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required; BA/BS preferred.
  • 1 year working in an AAALAC-accredited laboratory animal facility preferred.
  • AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) or Laboratory Animal Technologist (LAT) level is preferred.
