The Nutritionist I is a key member of the Hamilton Health Center team, responsible for determining WIC eligibility and nutrition risk level according to federal and state policies and company guidelines. This role involves performing assessments and providing education to participants, ensuring tailored food packages are provided within federal and state guidelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for certifying and recertifying participants to the WIC Program according to State agency policy and procedures.
- Incorporates Value Enhanced Nutrition Assessment (VENA) skills, participant-centered counseling, and guided goal-setting techniques.
- Performs anthropometric measurements and hematological testing following OSHA regulations and state policy.
- Prepares, delivers, and documents nutrition care plans for participants, ensuring chart organization and documentation are done according to departmental and State procedures.
- Assures compliance with requirements for documenting medical/nutritional risk status and all nutrition education services provided in participant files.
- Responsible for high-risk contacts, monitoring high-risk participants in accordance with the high-risk care plan.
- Prescribes and tailors food packages for participants, including formula changes, and orders special formula for participants under the supervision of the Nutrition Education Coordinator when authorized by a provider.
- Makes referrals to health, social service, and other community services both in and outside of HHC services.
- Participates in meetings, in-services, trainings, and conferences as assigned by management.
- Complies with nutrition education, breastfeeding, and outreach objectives, assists coordinators in development and implementation of plan.
- Assists other staff with duties when understaffed to ensure optimal flow and service of the clinic, performing certifications, formula changes, etc., as directed by management, regardless of appointment schedule to meet the needs of WIC participants.
- Attends WIC Satellite clinics as assigned, performing all duties necessary to ensure smooth clinic flow and delivery of benefits to participants.
- Responsible for overall security of equipment, supplies, and eWIC cards at the clinic site.
- Protects participant confidentiality.
- Responsible to communicate needs and issues to WIC Director, the State WIC Agency, or Hamilton Health Center as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science from an accredited four-year institution, with emphasis on one of the following: Food and Nutrition, Community Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition Education, Human Nutrition, Nutrition Science, or equivalent.
- Previous experience or background in a WIC or community nutrition setting and customer service preferred.
- Knowledge of educational and nutrition counseling methods, nutrition assessment, anthropometric and hematological measurements, breastfeeding promotion and support methods, social and human service systems for client referral.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Bi-Lingual Spanish preferred.
