Job Overview:

The Triage Nurse plays a crucial role in the provision of primary healthcare services and patient management within a dynamic clinical environment. Under the guidance of a medical provider, the nurse engages in health promotion, disease prevention, and management of patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial evaluations to determine the urgency of patient care needs.
  • Handle incoming communications and utilize critical thinking to determine appropriate actions.
  • Assist patients upon arrival at the clinic, addressing their medical requirements.
  • Support the clinic during emergencies and facilitate coordination with local healthcare facilities.
  • Ask pertinent questions, monitor vital signs, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals.
  • Prepare patients for consultations, welcoming them and guiding them to examination rooms.
  • Record patient vitals, update medical histories, medications, and allergies.
  • Accurately document all screening information in electronic health records in a timely manner.
  • Administer injections as per provider instructions and established protocols.
  • Perform laboratory procedures with precision and efficiency.
  • Manage laboratory orders for both in-house and external labs promptly.
  • Ensure all medical equipment and examination areas are cleaned and sterilized in accordance with safety standards.
  • Provide educational materials and resources to patients as directed by the medical provider.
  • Assist providers by reviewing patient records to identify care gaps and outstanding orders.
  • Support the provider in coordinating necessary imaging referrals.
  • Help patients schedule follow-up appointments as needed.
  • Communicate test results to patients as instructed by the provider.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for both patients and staff.
  • Complete initial and annual competency assessments successfully.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill each essential duty effectively. The following qualifications are required:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Iowa.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills and data entry.
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a practicing registered nurse.
  • Experience in a clinical setting is preferred.

Language Proficiency:

  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patients and colleagues.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Competence in applying mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios in practical scenarios.

Reasoning Skills:

  • Ability to apply logical or scientific principles to various intellectual and practical challenges.
  • Capability to interpret nonverbal symbols and manage abstract and concrete variables.

Certifications:

  • Completion of credentialing and privileges if certified.
