Cytology Specialist

As a Cytology Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring that all services are delivered in accordance with our mission statement and SPIRIT values. Your primary responsibility will be to prepare and screen all cytologic specimens, assist on fine needle procedures, and interpret findings under the direction of a pathologist. You will also be responsible for following laboratory policies and procedures in accordance with all regulatory agency requirements, including CAP, JCAHO, OSHA, and CLIA. Additionally, you will determine that test results meet the requirements of our quality control program and ensure that results are approved for reporting following department policy. You will maintain all necessary records and documentation, and utilize critical thinking skills and complex problem solving in the resolution of clinical and instrument problems.
Requirements
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cytology Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science, one of the specialties in cytology, or one of the chemical sciences. A Bachelor's degree requirement may be waived by the manager if appropriately licensed, depending on the amount and type of experience. The candidate should also have 2-4 years of experience in a related field and be certified as a cytologist or specialist in cytology by a recognized credentialing board. Eligibility to become registered is also a plus. The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and oral, to effectively interact with hospital personnel and outside contacts.
