Job Summary:
As a Radiology Tech Lab Technician at SSM Health, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care by taking x-rays of designated parts of the human body for diagnostic purposes. You will also perform standard laboratory tasks according to procedures, including waived testing and phlebotomy when needed. This position only performs plain films and fluoro.

Responsibilities:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Explain procedures to patients to ensure understanding and provide appropriate educational material.

Transport patients to and from clinical areas and verify patient identity according to policies and procedures.

Assist technologists with preparing patients for radiology exams by positioning them for the procedure.

Assist technologists with filing, delivering, and retrieving patient reports and charts, matching films to folders, and delivering reports to patient units/physicians.

Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines to prevent patient exposure to unnecessary radiation.

Prepare and administer contrast media and medications within the accepted scope of practice and applicable state and federal regulations.

Observe patients during procedures and report abnormal activity. Monitor protocols and recommend updates or refinements as warranted.

Ensure prompt submission of high-quality images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers, and patient data/history).

Ensure equipment is properly functioning and report potential problems or equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel. Lock/tag out equipment if necessary.

Assist in maintaining a clean and orderly department, including procedure rooms, laboratory work areas, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage areas, and other areas in the department.

May perform limited CT procedures in emergent situations when a CT Technologist is not on site.

Collect, label, process, and preserve blood, urine, and other specimens according to established laboratory procedures.

Enter, access, and execute lab orders in the appropriate laboratory and electronic medical record system.

May perform phlebotomy and/or waived testing.

Perform various administrative and clerical duties, including admission activities, insurance verification, order entry processing, and medical record processing.

Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
Completion of a radiology certification program

No experience required

Physical Requirements:
Constant standing and walking.

Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more).

Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication.

Frequent use of hearing to distinguish body sounds and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.

Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.

Frequent lifting/moving of patients.

Frequent reaching, gripping, and keyboard use/data entry.

Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.

Occasional use of vision to identify and distinguish colors.

Occasional bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.

Rare kneeling and sitting.

REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)

And

Radiographer, Licensed - Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services

And

ARRT-R Radiography - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
