Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and motivated individual to work in one of the world's most renowned museums. As an Assistant Curator of Paintings, you will have the chance to develop your expertise in the field of art history, working closely with our curatorial team to manage the collection of Italian, French, Spanish, and British paintings before 1800. You will be responsible for researching and studying works currently in the collection, recommending acquisitions, proposing exhibitions and research projects, maintaining and updating the online catalogue, and working with colleagues in the museum and academic world as well as with dealers and auctioneers and cultivating collectors and other supporters.

Main Responsibilities
  • Curatorial Assignments: Apply advanced knowledge of art history and art education to moderate complexity assignments
  • Scholarly Research: Perform scholarly research to support the development of the collection and exhibitions
  • Galleries and Exhibitions: Devise gallery installations and organize smaller exhibitions in collaboration with contributing departments
  • International Partnerships: Travel and network internationally to develop partnerships with other museums
  • Publishing and Lecturing: Publish and lecture in area of specialization to share expertise with the academic community
  • Collections Management: Participate in digitization and collection management; assess loan requests; assist with assessments of conservation needs of the collection
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Masters Degree or Ph.D.: A masters degree in art history, art or art education, or a Ph.D. in a related field
  • Language Skills: Fluency in at least one foreign language (modern or ancient)
  • Curatorial Experience: Competent to work in most curatorial functions, with experience in curatorial roles preferred
