About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Operating Room Specialist to join our team at UPMC, specifically in the cardiac and vascular service lines.

Job Summary

This full-time position involves working on a day shift with call, typically from 6:45 AM to 3:15 PM or until cardiac/vascular cases are completed. The successful candidate will work closely with surgeons, specialty team members, and other departments to ensure seamless patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for surgery by washing, shaving, and ensuring aseptic incision sites.
  • Transport patients to the operating room, help position them on the operating table, and cover them with sterile surgical drapes.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills and collaborate with surgeons, specialty team members, and other departments.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A formal surgical technician program offered by a community or junior college, vocational school, university, hospital, or the military.
  • Current certification as a Certified First Assist (CFA) through the National Board of Surgical Technologists and Surgical Assistants.
  • Three years of current Operating Room experience is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and potential complications for procedures performed.
  • Ability to anticipate and recognize physician's needs and changes that require unplanned or unanticipated interventions and respond appropriately.
Compensation and Benefits

The estimated salary range for this role is $55,000-$75,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. Additionally, UPMC offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement savings, and paid time off.
