Responsibilities

As a Medical Care Specialist, your primary duties will include:

  1. Delivering direct nursing care to patients under the guidance of RNs or physicians, encompassing tasks such as medication administration, wound care, and vital signs monitoring.
  2. Performing comprehensive patient assessments, involving physical exams, medical histories, and medication reviews, to craft personalized care plans.
  3. Administering prescribed medications and treatments meticulously, guaranteeing accurate dosing and adherence to established protocols.
  4. Evaluating, cleaning, dressing, and managing wounds, incisions, and injuries while actively monitoring for infection or complications.
  5. Continuously monitoring and meticulously documenting patients' vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates.
  6. Maintaining detailed and precise patient records, recording changes in their condition, administered treatments, and medication management.
  7. Educating patients and their families on their medical conditions, prescribed medications, and self-care practices, with a focus on overall well-being.
  8. Administering and closely monitoring intravenous (IV) medications and fluids, ensuring proper insertion and functioning of IV lines.
  9. Providing care for patients with urinary catheters, including insertion, routine maintenance, and diligent monitoring for complications.
  10. Collecting patient samples, such as blood, urine, and sputum, for subsequent laboratory testing and analysis.
  11. Collaborating closely with the healthcare team, including RNs, physicians, therapists, and support staff, to ensure seamless patient care.
  12. Addressing patient comfort and safety requirements, including positioning, mobility assistance, and pain management.
  13. Responding swiftly and effectively during medical emergencies, adhering to established protocols and delivering basic life support as necessary.
  14. Adhering rigorously to infection control procedures, encompassing proper hand hygiene and utilization of personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent infections from spreading.
  15. Safely handling, storing, and disposing of medications and medical supplies, in strict accordance with regulations and guidelines.
  16. Fostering health and wellness by promoting preventive care measures like vaccinations and screenings, and aiding with health assessments.
  17. Advocating for patients' rights and needs within the healthcare system, ensuring they receive the appropriate care and support.
  18. Staying current on nursing best practices, regulations, and advancements through ongoing education and training.
  19. In certain cases, LPNs may supervise certified nursing assistants (CNAs) or unlicensed assistive personnel (UAPs) to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care.
