Job Summary

This position is part of the Georgia Department of Agriculture's Retail Food Section, responsible for ensuring food safety and compliance with state and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections and investigations of retail food stores, bakeries, seafood operations, and mobile meat trucks to ensure compliance with health and sanitation laws.
  • Collect and transport food and water samples for analysis, and report findings to relevant authorities.
  • Provide training and guidance to food and dairy personnel on health and sanitation practices, rules, and regulations.
  • Collaborate with state and federal agencies to enforce regulations and ensure public health and safety.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in agronomy, animal science, biology, chemistry, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Certification as a Registered Sanitarian or Environmental Health Specialist is preferred.
  • Two years of experience conducting inspections and investigations, or working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification as a registered sanitarian or registered environmental health specialist by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA).
  • Two years of professional experience conducting inspections and investigations for compliance with established state and federal health and food and/or milk sanitation laws, rules, and regulations.
