Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Walgreens. As a key member of our pharmacy team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our pharmacy services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist pharmacists in the practice of pharmacy, including the performance of other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Assist with and coach pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cashiers in the operation of the pharmacy cash registers.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Perform duties as assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager, including utilizing pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, ensuring information is entered correctly, filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine is correct, and checking for possible interactions.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to Company policies and procedures in relation to pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
  • Responsible for registering all related sales on assigned cash register, collecting and handling cash as required.
  • Handle telephone calls that do not require personal attention of the pharmacist, including those to physicians.
  • Process manual claims for third-party program prescription services in a timely and efficient manner and perform other clerical duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager.
  • Lead Pharmacy Department inventory management activities, such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipments of pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintain knowledge of Company asset protection techniques and file claims for warehouse overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods involving Rx drugs.
  • Assist and support Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in analyzing and seeking to improve pharmacy financial, customer service, and inventory performance data.
  • May assist pharmacists in administering clinical services, including the collection and proper labeling of blood/urine samples from patients and other clinical services as required.
  • Assist pharmacy staff in coordinating clinical services, Walgreens healthcare clinics, and external providers.
  • Assist Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing and maintaining good relationships with the local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
  • Assist with exterior and interior maintenance by ensuring the Pharmacy Department is stocked with adequate supplies, clean, neat, and orderly in condition and appearance.
  • Coach pharmacy technicians and cashiers in the correct use of processes and tools to drive efficiency within the pharmacy.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain PTCB certification through the designated PTCB training program and/or state required certification/registration.
  • Attend training and complete PPLs requested by Manager and acquire continuing education credits.
  • Maintain knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy, including the latest news and developments.

Requirements:

  • One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting.
  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Requires willingness to work flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.
  • Prefer to have prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Prefer basic level PC skills, including starting and shutting down the computer, using a mouse to point and click, starting and closing programs, switching between programs, saving files, printing documents, and accessing information online.
  • Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
