Job Summary

The Social Worker collaborates with the multidisciplinary team and provides input in the development of the IHP/IEP for students requiring social work intervention and support in the school setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establishing Therapeutic Environments: Develops and implements a set of rules and procedures that are appropriate for the therapeutic setting and align with the full instructional program.
  • Individualized Service Planning: Designs and develops individualized service plans based on the IEP, supporting the curriculum using diagnostic information from various assessments and assessment processes.
  • Resource Utilization: Effectively utilizes available and appropriate resources as a bridge to the instructional program.
  • Student Transitions: Effectively transitions students from therapy to classroom and classroom to therapy.
  • Behavior Prevention and Intervention: Plans in collaboration with the educational team for the prevention and intervention of inappropriate behaviors, maintaining the dignity of the student.
  • Positive Reinforcement: Engages students in providing positive feedback using effective reinforcement techniques.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Interacts effectively with students, family members, educational team members, and professionals outside the organization.
  • Knowledge and Community Resources: Knowledgeable about general development and the impact of the disability on the student and their family, utilizing community, state, and national resources as necessary to promote student safety and welfare.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Collaborates with assigned students, educational support staff, student teachers, interns, and volunteers working in the school for the welfare and safety of all students.
  • Adherence to Policies: Adheres to Amergis and District policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Licensure and Certification: Holds a Professional Educator License with School Social Worker (SSW) endorsement as required by state, contract, and/or facility.
  • Education and Training: May be required to have MSW or LCSW per state, contract, or facility.
  • Professional Standards: Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Competency Program: Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Health and Safety: Current CPR if applicable, TB Questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray if applicable, and current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Federal, State, and Local Requirements: Meets all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • New Hire Training: Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to the job site.
  • Confidentiality and HIPAA: Understands patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Communication and Computer Skills: Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required, and computer proficiency is necessary.
  • Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.
