About the Role

As a Surgical Counselor at Midwest Vision Partners, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients undergoing surgical procedures. Your primary responsibility will be to educate patients on their diagnosis, treatment options, and expected outcomes, ensuring they feel informed and empowered throughout their journey.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare medical charts for surgical evaluations, including cataract, retinal, glaucoma, cornea, and lid procedures.
  • Travel with physicians to various locations, including referring physician offices, to provide patient education and support.
  • Educate patients on the latest technologies and advancements in cataract surgery, ensuring they understand their treatment options.
  • Obtain prior approvals or authorizations from insurance companies as needed.
  • Schedule patient surgeries, pre-operative, and post-operative appointments, including appointments with primary care physicians, optometrists, and surgery centers.
  • Prepare and organize surgery charts, mailing necessary paperwork, and informing patients of pre-admission testing requirements.
  • Answer patient inquiries regarding surgery or other concerns, providing clear and concise information.
  • Verify medical benefits for surgery and injections, discussing benefits and costs of non-covered benefits with patients.
  • Complete consent and other necessary forms for surgery, ensuring patients understand their responsibilities.
  • Interface with the Billing Department as needed, ensuring seamless communication.
  • Relay surgical booking forms and charts to the surgery center in a timely manner, maintaining a professional relationship with referring physicians.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the success of our team.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills, with a focus on patient satisfaction.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ensuring clear and concise information is provided to patients.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous ophthalmology or healthcare experience, with a focus on patient care and support.
  • Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and organized, with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel to multiple locations, including referring physician offices.
