Position Overview

Gaston Social Services is dedicated to safeguarding, nurturing, and empowering individuals who are temporarily or permanently unable to care for themselves. This is achieved through the administration of federal, state, and local programs aimed at enhancing the welfare of our citizens.

Key Responsibilities

The following duties are essential for this role:
  • Delivering various adoption services, including conducting Pre-Placement Assessments for agency, independent, and relative adoptive families; creating child profiles for children cleared for adoption; and facilitating relative and independent adoptions along with post-adoptive services. This includes thorough training, data collection, background checks, and completion of necessary state documentation.
  • Recruiting and retaining adoptive families by providing necessary training, education, and support to ensure safe and stable homes for children in foster care.
  • Ensuring safe and stable placements for children in the adoption process by assessing their needs and matching them with the strengths of potential foster/adoptive parents.
  • Participating in court hearings and team meetings, attending relevant training for professional development, and maintaining accurate documentation in case records, including monthly and court reports.
  • Addressing additional program requirements such as problem pregnancy cases and supporting foster care workers in cases where adoption is the permanent plan.
  • Performing other duties as assigned to promote teamwork and ensure permanency for children.
Minimum Qualifications

A. Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited institution.
B. Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from an accredited program with a Child Welfare Collaborative (for CPS positions only).
C. Bachelor's Degree in Social Work with one year of experience in case management, assessment, supportive counseling, intervention, psychosocial therapy, or treatment planning.
D. A four-year degree in a human services field with at least 25 semester hours of approved coursework and two years of relevant experience.
E. A four-year degree with three years of related experience.

A valid driver's license is required. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, particularly in working with children and adolescents, along with knowledge of child development. Understanding the impact of separation and loss on children removed from their families is particularly beneficial.

Additional Information

Minimally qualified applicants will start at 25% of the salary range: $27.89/hr.
The selected candidate must successfully complete a drug screening test prior to employment.
