Medical Assistant

We are seeking a skilled Certified Medical Assistant to join our team at Duke Health. As a key member of our interdisciplinary healthcare team, you will provide direct patient care and support administrative duties in a fast-paced medical practice.
Responsibilities- Take medical histories, record vital signs, and prepare patients for examinations and procedures.
- Assist medical and nursing staff during examinations and procedures, collect and prepare laboratory specimens, and perform basic laboratory tests.
- Provide patient care support, including removing sutures/staples, changing sterile and non-sterile dressings, and promoting patient/family understanding of the educational content and plan of care.
- Document patient records, dispose of contaminated supplies, and perform instrument processing, high-level disinfection, and sterilization of medical instruments.
- Telephonate prescriptions to pharmacies, prepare and administer medications as directed by physicians, and authorize drug refills as needed.
- Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) is strongly preferred.
- High school or GED graduation is required.
- One year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting is required for Level II and III positions.
- Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA, or ARMA is required, and BLS certification is also required.
