Radiation Detection Operations Specialist

The Radiation Detection Operations Specialist plays a pivotal role in ensuring the operational and programmatic success of our organization. Reporting directly to the Program Manager, this individual will be responsible for providing critical support across various aspects of radiation detection operations.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Deploy equipment as required, including transporting detection equipment via towable trailer to designated locations.
- Coordinate and track the progress of deployments, ensuring timely and efficient execution.
- Maintain detection equipment in a ready state for deployment 24/7, conducting repairs, calibrations, and maintenance as needed.
- Provide coverage during standard and non-standard business hours, including weekends and holidays when necessary.
- Deliver just-in-time training on deployed equipment to stakeholders at events.
- Ensure completion of After-Action Reports (AAR) post-deployment.
- Assist with scheduling off-site part-time staff to support surge deployments.
- Provide regular status updates to the Program Manager.
Requirements
To excel in this role, candidates must possess:
- Extensive experience in CBRN detection, with a strong emphasis on R/N detection.
- No less than 10 years of relevant experience in R/N detection training and supporting preventive R/N detection mission operations at special events or during steady-state operations.
- Familiarity with Personal Radiation Detectors (PRD), Human Portable Radiation Detection Backpacks, Radiological Isotope Identification Devices (RIID), Mobile Radiation Detection Systems, and auxiliary equipment such as radios and radioactive material sources.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment repetitively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including daily situation reports, after-action reports, and monthly reporting.
- Proficiency in using computers, A/V equipment, and Microsoft Office products, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Radiation Worker training and experience working with radioactive materials.
- Experience with agency fleet requirements.
- This position involves frequent travel within the contiguous United States and US territories, often exceeding 75% of the month, with possible deployments lasting over 10 days, followed by back-to-back travel to another mission.
- A valid driver's license is mandatory, along with the ability to operate a dually pick-up truck with a fifth-wheel trailer. An active CDL license or immediate eligibility to obtain one upon hire is also required.
- A SECRET level security clearance and DHS Suitability are necessary for this role.
Desired Experience
Candidates with experience in biological and/or chemical detection and equipment are highly desirable. A Bachelor's degree is preferred but not essential; equivalent experience may be substituted for a degree.
