Job Summary

The Winter Sanctuary Emergency Homeless Shelter is seeking a skilled Advocate & Volunteer Coordinator to join our team. This role is responsible for providing advocacy services to our guests, overseeing policy and programs related to their health and safety, and recruiting, training, and scheduling volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advocacy services to Winter Sanctuary guests and oversee policy and programs related to their health and safety.
  • Document all interactions in our database.
  • Cover on-call shifts as needed during shelter season.
  • Recruit, train, and schedule volunteers to support our programs.
  • Coordinate group volunteer opportunities and ensure a positive experience for all participants.
  • Attend Board meetings, staff meetings, and educational sessions as required.
  • Ensure our shelter locations are stocked with essential supplies.
  • Provide excellent customer service and respond to phone calls and messages in a timely manner.
  • Assist with clerical tasks such as document organization and filing.

Requirements

  • Excellent written, verbal, and electronic communication skills.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Results-oriented and able to respond to crises in a calm and collected manner.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality and ability to maintain it.
  • Willingness to step in and help when needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two-year degree or higher in Social Services or a related field.
  • Three to five years of experience in a non-profit organization.
  • Volunteer management experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated involvement in the local community a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse population.
