Job Description

This role is responsible for providing critical support to distribution automation systems and SCADA applications utilized by Electrical Engineering and Control Centers. The position encompasses designing, implementing, and maintaining databases, displays, and applications related to distribution automation and energy integration. The engineer will also provide operational support for routine and emergency system operations, manage grid modernization projects, and ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Application Support: Provide ongoing support to critical information systems and databases used by Electrical Engineering and Control Centers.
  • System Maintenance: Design, implement, and maintain operational models, databases, and applications for distribution automation systems, ensuring smooth operations for SCADA, ADMS, and DSCADA systems.
  • Project Management: Manage specific projects related to grid modernization, including SCADA-controlled devices such as reclosers, capacitors, and regulators, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project goals.
  • Data & Automation: Develop and maintain scripts and APIs to automate processes, share data across departments, and ensure system-wide efficiency.
  • Engineering Analysis: Conduct system analysis for load forecasting, emergency operational decisions, and system reliability improvements. Perform root cause analysis for feeder reliability and distribution system faults.
  • Cybersecurity & Compliance: Ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards through system patch management, virus updates, and monitoring for potential system intrusions.
  • Cross-Department Liaison: Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to support field crews, commissioning of SCADA devices, and coordinate ongoing projects.
  • Emergency Support: Provide on-call support for DSCADA systems on a rotating basis and assist operators during emergencies by conducting operational analysis and making recommendations.

Education & Experience Requirements:

Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent and 5 years of relevant experience, or Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent and 3 years of relevant experience.

Skills and Qualifications:

Proficiency in SCADA, ADMS, and OMS applications and databases. Experience with real-time control systems and distribution automation devices (reclosers, switches, capacitors). Ability to develop automation scripts and work with APIs to streamline processes. Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, Java, VB, or C#. Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams. Knowledge of cybersecurity standards and experience with patch management and system monitoring.
