Position Overview

SUNY Cortland's History Department invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in History/Adolescence Education Social Studies at the Assistant Professor rank. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and growing History Department with a strong commitment to social studies teacher preparation and history education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach and supervise secondary social studies teacher candidates and teach graduate courses on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning of history.
  • Pursue a robust research and publication agenda in history, including research in social studies education and/or the Scholarship on the Teaching and Learning of History.
  • Work with multiple constituencies within and beyond the university, including outreach to and collaboration with grade 7-12 school partners.
  • Collaborate with department colleagues in the development, delivery, and accreditation of the Adolescence Education Social Studies (SST) program.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in History or a related field relevant to adolescent social studies education.
  • Substantial graduate-level training and coursework in the discipline of history.
  • Experience and demonstrated effectiveness teaching college-level history.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social studies teacher preparation and history education, including research and publications in the Scholarship on the Teaching and Learning of History.
