Job Overview

This position is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive breastfeeding service. The successful candidate will serve as an expert in the field of breastfeeding, providing consultation, education, and research to support the development of best practices.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement a comprehensive breastfeeding service, including clinical practice, collaboration, and consultation.
  2. Provide expert guidance on breastfeeding issues, including assessment, education, and support.
  3. Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop protocols, policies, and procedures related to breastfeeding.
  4. Develop and implement breastfeeding competencies for staff.
  5. Provide education and training to staff on breastfeeding best practices.
  6. Conduct research and analysis to inform breastfeeding policies and procedures.
  7. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance breastfeeding outcomes.
  8. Develop and maintain relationships with breastfeeding organizations and experts.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) License.
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Three years of experience in an inpatient clinical setting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Five years of experience in the care of breastfeeding mothers and babies, including level three neonates.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged standing and walking.
  • Occasional twisting, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, sitting, kneeling, and squatting.
  • Exposure to infectious disease and possible carcinogenic chemicals.
  • Exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
  • Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulations for performing procedures and computer keyboard.
  • Requires ability to see computer screen, reports, and perform assistance in procedures with accuracy.
  • Ability to hear well enough to interact with others and to detect audible alarms.
Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of clinical breastfeeding issues common to the early postpartum period.
  • Experience with breast pump rentals and sales.
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with detailed, confidential material.
  • Computer skills required.
