Job Title: Summer Camp Counselor

Join our team as a Summer Camp Counselor at SPCA Santa Cruz As a key member of our Humane Education team, you will play a vital role in delivering educational programs to children aged 6-15, promoting positive behaviors towards animal welfare.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with planning and delivering humane education curriculum as part of our summer camp program.
  • Lead children's camp activities, games, and presentations, promoting a safe and healthy environment for all.
  • Handle and care for animals involved in program presentations and activities, adhering to SPCASC animal handling and safety protocols.
  • Monitor children during handling and exposure to domestic and wild animals, maintaining a safe and healthy camp environment.
  • Positively manage a range of camper behaviors and expectations, ensuring a positive learning experience.

Requirements:

  • One year of experience working with groups of children is preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent, required.
  • Animal handling experience preferred.
  • First Aid and CPR training preferred.
  • A valid CA Driver's License and an insurable driving record, required.

Work Environment:

Work is performed in a classroom, out in our animal yards and inside our animal shelter setting. Potential for exposure to zoonotic diseases and disinfectants; potential for exposure to dangerous and fractious animals; potential exposure to high noise levels; potential for animal bites and scratches while handling animals.
