Radiologic Technologist Lvl 3

Mammography technologists use advanced imaging equipment to produce high-quality images of the breast for diagnostic purposes under the direction of an attending radiologist.
The technologists are responsible for explaining the procedure to patients, positioning and immobilizing the patient's breast on the unit, and monitoring the scanning process to produce images of diagnostic quality.
Areas of Responsibilities- Coordinates assistance with Client Navigators and clerical staff.
- Checks-in patient procedure and performs mammography imaging studies as per clinician recommendation.
- Schedules patient procedure and performs work related to breast imaging.
- Maintains and coordinates the availability of mammography services with other services, clinics, or other facilities and locations under his/her jurisdiction.
- Reviews exam orders, consults with radiologist, schedules patients, and arranges for transportation as indicated.
- Identifies patient and documents all information pertinent to final report in the RIS and PACS.
- Prepares all patients (adults and geriatric) for radiological procedures requested by the clinician. Arranges for proper protection of patients, public, and staff from infectious diseases/materials.
- Oversees the work of ancillary staff. Instructs technical staff and Radiologic Technology students in routine, special positions, and procedures. Assures proper use of equipment through instructions and review.
- Performs examinations in the mammography section during regular and weekend shifts as appropriate. Able to perform general diagnostic exams as appropriate.
- Performs daily checks of Mammography imaging equipment, immobilization devices, and other necessary accessories.
- Reviews daily maintenance, quality assurance, and maintains documents and logs as required and mandated by the department and various regulatory agencies.
- Performs Quality Assurance and documents the records required as directed.
- Conducts inspections and checks equipment for defects and assures proper use of such equipment through instruction and review.
- Reports any unexpected patient incidents in accordance with the occurrence report protocol.
- Maintains and exercises all mandated radiation safety regulations. Maintains basic care of all the radiographic imaging equipment. All malfunctions are to be reported to management staff whether mechanical, electrical, or suspect and service request documentation completed.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment for both patients and staff.
- Trains and supervises radiology students in proper use of shielding and radiation protection and ensures enforcement of NYS Health Code laws pertaining to radiation protection for patients, public, and staff.
- Performs other duties as deemed necessary in the event of emergencies or disaster.
- Attends meetings to review safety, fire, disaster, and other hospital and department policies, and confirms that a clean and safe work environment is maintained for both patients and staff.
- Continues professional growth and development of job-related skills on an ongoing basis. Participates in continuing education activities.
- Assists radiologist during radiographic procedures as required.
- Ensures all examinations are accessioned, documented in EPIC, and all images sent to PACS. Monitors RIS/PACS incomplete worklists to ensure all exams are completed.
- Maintains a professional demeanor and related to patients, physicians, staff, and public in an appropriate manner.
- In accordance with HIPAA (the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), staff members will exercise due diligence in ensuring patient privacy and confidentiality.
- As required by City, State, and Federal regulations, exposure to ionizing radiation will be kept As Low as Reasonably Achievable (ALARA).
