Police Cadet

The City of Fontana is seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to join our Police Cadet Program. As a Police Cadet, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience and skills in law enforcement while working under the supervision of experienced police officers.

• Perform a wide range of police support duties, including clerical assistance and reception work.
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with the community and police department.
• Learn various policing techniques, including problem-solving and intelligence-led policing strategies.
• Provide assistance in property control, including logging incoming property and releasing property to individuals.
• Support various areas of the police department, including lobby reception, records, crime prevention, dispatch, patrol, and property control.
• Provide clerical support, including typing, filing, and releasing vehicles to individuals.
• Meet P.O.S.T. medical guidelines and maintain prompt and regular attendance.

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
• Current and continuous enrollment in an accredited college or university with college-level coursework in law enforcement.
• Must be a minimum of 18 years old and a maximum of 24 years old.
• Must possess a valid California Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent.

The Police Cadet position requires sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, gripping, repetitive hand movement, and fine hand coordination in using a computer keyboard. The need to lift, carry, and push supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. May be required to work outside in the elements; hot, cold, and rain.

Successful candidates will be required to pass a drug screening, fingerprint screening, physical examination, and background investigation. This position is part-time, at-will, without benefits, unless required by law.
