Job Title: Phlebotomist and Specimen Processor

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist and Specimen Processor to join our team at Intermountain Healthcare. As a Phlebotomist and Specimen Processor, you will be responsible for accurately collecting patient specimens for diagnostic testing while working in a professional medical environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform phlebotomy (venipuncture, fingerstick, heelstick) according to established procedures.
  • Identify patients using two patient identifiers and label specimens and specimen containers accurately.
  • Determine the correct priority for STAT, Routine, ASAP, etc. specimen collections.
  • Collect and receive specimens into the laboratory utilizing computer protocols, including processing, preparation, centrifugation, aliquot, and routing of specimens.
  • Ensure the timely transport and processing of all patient specimens for testing.
  • File patients lab reports, requisitions charges for the business office, and send reports to outside hospitals and clinics.
  • Post charges and reconcile invoices, investigate complex bills, and research and resolve any questionable patient orders.
  • Enter patient demographic data accurately and maintain required lab records and logs.
  • Collect statistics for reports and perform other clerical duties as directed by manager.
  • Clean and maintain equipment, centrifuges, and refrigerators, and record daily temperatures of all refrigerators in the phlebotomy areas.
  • Order supplies and maintain sufficient inventory to efficiently operate phlebotomy services.
  • Assist in the training of new associates and students, and act as a receptionist, greeting patients and answering phones within the laboratory.
  • Perform patient registration and test ordering and specimen processing as appropriate.
  • Document and communicate information thoroughly and accurately, and utilize equipment according to departmental guidelines.
  • Maintain a neat and clean work area, dispose of waste appropriately, and clean bench areas and equipment.
  • Promote mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Healthcare, and abide by service behavior standards.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification from one of the following: RPT, AMT PBT, ASCP, AMT, NCCT, NAPT, NHA, NPA, ACA, ASPT, or NHCO.
  • Non-certified candidates will also be considered.
  • Six (6) months of laboratory experience is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Interact with patients, patients' family, patient care providers, and others requiring the ability to verbally communicate information and understand spoken information.
  • Operate computers and complex and delicate lab equipment with precision and accuracy.
  • See and read lab equipment, labels, monitors, and documents.
  • Walk while transporting phlebotomy equipment cart.
  • Remain standing for long periods of time to perform work.
  • Adjust body, including bending, to perform phlebotomy work.

Location: Good Samaritan Hospital, Lafayette, CO

Work Schedule: 36 hours per week, evenings, every other weekend, and holiday.
