Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse - Oncology Support

Tennessee Oncology is seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team in providing high-quality patient care and support in our outpatient clinics.

Job Summary:

The Licensed Practical Nurse will work closely with our healthcare team to ensure patients receive safe and effective care throughout their treatment and disease process. This role requires strong communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review patient medical records to ensure accurate data entry and availability prior to scheduled appointments.
  • Generate and distribute daily clinical reports to relevant personnel.
  • Obtain patient vital signs, weight, height, pain score, and other necessary data, documenting in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Manage and perform rooming processes for provider clinics, escorting patients to exam rooms and reviewing health history, allergies, and current medications.
  • Complete required screening questionnaires and record information in the EMR.
  • Assist with provider-performed procedures and exams, acting as a chaperone as needed.
  • Stock exam and treatment rooms with necessary supplies and prepare and maintain equipment for accuracy.
  • Collaborate with Front Office staff to schedule lab, provider, treatment, and injection appointments.
  • Obtain pre-authorizations for oral prescriptions and refill extension requests, adhering to Tennessee Oncology policy and procedure.
  • Manage IV therapy access devices, accessing and deaccessing implanted ports under the supervision of a RN, and use the drug storage cabinet to enter and remove medications as directed.
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly drug cabinet activities as assigned, adhering to TO policy and procedure.
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by the provider and in accordance with TO and nursing policy, procedures, and standards.
  • Monitor PT/INR results and work with the provider to manage anti-coagulant/Coumadin therapy.
  • Complete patient supplemental paperwork for insurance, leave, and disability, as needed.
  • Perform telephone triage under the supervision of a RN and/or provider.
  • Assist with patient education and informed consent process, adhering to TO policy.
  • Schedule patient psychological services and arrange community agency/support services referrals, under the direction of the provider and/or RN.
  • Enter orders accurately into the EMR system for labs and tests, per verbal/written order from the provider.
  • Manage provider clinic productivity by identifying and resolving problems that impede patient flow.
  • Monitor, observe, record, and report patient condition and/or changes to patient condition, reaction to medications and treatments to the RN and/or provider.
  • Assist with or perform nursing evaluations under the supervision of a provider or RN.
  • Work in the infusion rooms under the supervision of an RN.
  • Document services performed and medications administered accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Enter charges for services performed accurately and on time.
  • Complete assigned evaluation tools within designated timeframe.
  • Inform clinic managers of clinic needs and concerns relating to the work environment.
  • Participate in quality improvement committees as requested.
  • Attend all mandatory in-services, training, meetings, and complete required training, continuing education, and competency validations on time.
Requirements:
  • Current state LPN License.
  • Oncology experience in an outpatient facility preferred.
  • Minimum of one year LPN experience required.
  • May be waived with the approval of the EDONSONS Oncology Basics (introduction) chemotherapy course required within 6 months of hire, then every two years.
  • Current TO-approved BLS provider card.
Physical Requirements:
  • Travels to other TO clinics as necessary.
