This will involve conducting interviews and check-ins with business and property owners to assess business concerns and opportunities.
The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of and ability to navigate a Microsoft Office environment, as well as experience with public speaking and data management and communication platforms. They will also be comfortable working through ambiguity to find solutions and achieve desired results, and will be able to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines while maintaining focus in an environment with conflicting demands and priorities.
The DBL will work closely with the Director of the District Business Liaisons and other members of the Small Business Services Department to tailor programming and support to the needs of neighborhood and small businesses. They will also support City officials in district-specific projects in small business outreach and engagement efforts that impact business corridors.
The DBL will be a strong advocate for district businesses, providing owners with referrals to or engaging on their behalf with leaders at the City of Detroit, DEGC, business support organizations, and lending institutions. They will also act as the liaison and facilitator for the district to improve connection and communication between the business owner, City departments, and other organizations where appropriate.
The DBL will be required to travel frequently (35-50% of the work week) around the city for various community or district meetings with business owners and stakeholders. They will also be responsible for documenting and maintaining records of business visits, follow-up activities, and outcomes.
