Job Summary

The Christus Health Nurse Extern- ICU role is an exciting opportunity for aspiring nurses to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic healthcare setting. As a Nurse Extern, you will work under the guidance of a Registered Nurse (RN) and contribute to delivering high-quality patient care.

About the Role

This position involves working with patients in a hospital setting, collaborating with other disciplines to achieve overall healthcare goals. You will be responsible for adhering to patient plans of care, promoting learning experiences that enable you to competently perform nursing care activities. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, ability to read and interpret technical reports, charts, etc., and computer skills to enter data and generate reports.

Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge and skills acquired in nursing program to provide direct patient care with compassion, excellence, and efficiency.
  • Work under the guidance of an RN/Nurse Leader with assigned patients, in accordance with CSV hospital guidelines for patient care.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to achieve overall healthcare goals.
  • Responsible for competent care of patients in the hospital setting under the guidance of an assigned RN.
  • Function as a member of the patient care team, experiencing the complexities of a nursing care delivery model while increasing independence in taking a patient care assignment.

Requirements

Education

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Nursing program with completion of the program within 12 months from hire.
  • Nurse Extern required to graduate from Nursing program and pass NCLEX within 3 months of graduation from accredited program.

Certification/Licenses

  • Current BLS issued through American Heart Association is required.

Hospital Expanded Duties Training

  • Peripheral intravenous access and removal.
  • Recording of I&Os.
  • Foley Catheter insertion and removal.
  • NG insertion and removal.
  • Suture/Staple removal.
  • Unit appropriate POCT.
  • Bedside monitoring, CR, Telemetry, Telesitter, Capnography, Oximetry.

Estimated Salary: $45,000 - $65,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. A comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off, is also offered.
