Job Summary:

The University of Virginia seeks a skilled Healthcare Leader to join our team. As an Assistant Nurse Manager, you will play a vital role in supporting the nurse manager in administrative duties, particularly during off shifts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to maintain professional nursing standards in the clinical setting.
  • Participate in organizational and unit-based quality improvement activities.
  • Provide patient care on an as-needed basis and maintain clinical competencies.
  • Supervise care provided by maintaining high visibility to patients, families, and staff.
  • Share accountability with the manager for unit/department/organizational goals achievement.
  • Staff management, including recruitment, retention, coaching, training, evaluation, and development.
  • Provide managerial support as required and develop, implement, and participate in Quality Improvement Processes activities.
  • Assist staff in developing problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Maintain records pertaining to staff competency and quality audits.
  • Serve as a professional role model, coach, and resource for employees.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program, Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.
  • At least two years' experience as a registered nurse.
  • Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia required.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

Physical Demands:

The job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping/traveling, climbing (ladder, steps), and driving. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull > 100lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, vibrations, humidity, cold, heat, noise, outdoor climate, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
