Thermal Protection System Materials and Process Engineer III

We are seeking a highly skilled Thermal Protection System Materials and Process Engineer III to join our team at Blue Origin. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration heavy-lift launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to Earth's orbit and beyond.
This role supports the development and implementation of thermal protection systems (TPS) materials and processes. You will bring to bear your knowledge and expertise to refine processes, support design for manufacturing and assembly, conduct testing, and transition these processes to the TPS manufacturing unit.
You will also solve issues related to the production, integration, and refurbishment of thermal protection systems. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in materials science, chemical engineering, or chemistry
- 4+ years of experience in a related field
- Hands-on experience with setting up sophisticated chemical processes and equipment
- Experience in bringing development processes to full-scale production
- Familiarity with production activities, non-conformance, root-cause analysis, solving, and performing engineering analysis
- Familiarity with composites and/or innovative TPS materials, especially flexible insulation blankets
- Take ownership of work and operate under minimal direction
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in materials science, chemical engineering, or chemistry
- 6+ years of experience in the areas of thermal protection system development, testing, and data analysis
- Experience with PLC programming
- Experience with Creo (Pro/E), Windchill 10, and Ansys
