Job Summary

Northern Tool + Equipment is seeking a highly skilled Inventory Planner to optimize inventory investment efficiency and maintain desired in-stock and fill rate percentages for assigned vendors and product categories across all sales and distribution channels.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Inventory Planning: Collaborate with the merchandising team to plan inventory needs versus sales forecasts, ensuring accurate demand forecasting and inventory replenishment.
  2. Vendor Management: Work closely with vendors to ensure inventory availability, utilizing ASR/AWR software programs to streamline communication and inventory management.
  3. Inventory Maintenance: Perform all necessary item and vendor maintenance functions within ASR/AWR, tracking performance in key areas of responsibility using E3 and JD Edwards reporting tools.
  4. Performance Metrics: Meet minimum requirements on inventory management, including forecasting accuracy, mail order fill rate, retail transfer fill rate, service level goal attainment, and inventory accuracy.
  5. Inventory Levels: Maintain minimum requirements for in-stock position on all catalog, retail advertisements, end caps, and new stores at time of activation.
  6. Vendor and Item Setup: Complete vendor and item setup process and history exceptions within the E3 system in a timely manner.
  7. Order Management: Order all merchandise and place all merchandise transfers to maintain necessary inventory levels based on inventory budgets, planograms, vendor programs, location-specific space considerations, and promotional events.
  8. Order Expediting: Expedite all open orders, updating due dates and other relevant information in the JD Edwards system to ensure accurate order specifications when other departments access the system for information.
  9. Slow-Turning and Obsolete Merchandise: Identify and make recommendations for action on all slow-turning and obsolete merchandise in assigned categories.
  10. Inventory Optimization: Work with assigned merchandising team members to manage inventory levels to fulfill vendor programs, seasonal plans, and planograms.
  11. Supply Chain Improvement: Collaborate with distribution and traffic department personnel to improve overall efficiency and effectiveness of the supply chain.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in merchandising or a related field.
  • 1 year of related purchasing/inventory management experience desired, but not required.
  • Knowledge of hardline tools and equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills are required.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Solid PC skills, spreadsheet development abilities, and working knowledge of designated software packages.
  • E3 experience with silver level certification or greater.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide variety of company and vendor personnel.
