Job Summary:

The Phlebotomy Specialist performs venipuncture procedures for clinical or medical testing and transfusions. This role requires the ability to procure blood samples from patients and label them accurately to preserve the integrity of specimens for proper transporting, processing, and preparation of all samples. The specialist reviews lab requisitions and performs quality review and troubleshooting. They ensure adequate supplies and inventory and perform all clerical functions, including data entry, maintaining records, answering phones, and providing reports. The Phlebotomy Specialist provides support and facilitates communications by effectively navigating computer and phone systems, building and maintaining customer relationships, and providing a positive, professional, and empathetic understanding to all customers.

Key Responsibilities:

* Performs venipuncture procedures for clinical or medical testing and transfusions
* Procures blood samples from patients and labels them accurately
* Reviews lab requisitions and performs quality review and troubleshooting
* Ensures adequate supplies and inventory
* Performs all clerical functions, including data entry, maintaining records, answering phones, and providing reports

Requirements:

* California Certified Phlebotomy Technician
* Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
* Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
* Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only)

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience with lab/hospital computer systems and software
* Applicable clinical lab work experience
* Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families
