As the Manufacturing Maintenance Supervisor at Bio-Rad, you will oversee the maintenance operations for our chemical production facility, which specializes in the creation of chromatography resins, liquid buffers, and other essential life science products.

Your role will involve ensuring the reliability of site machinery and supporting various plant initiatives related to equipment, including advanced reactors, automated filling lines, and sophisticated mixing systems. The site’s instrumentation encompasses control valves, temperature, pressure, and speed transmitters, while automation systems include leading technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all facets of maintenance activities, including the prioritization and execution of maintenance requests and preventative maintenance work orders for a chemical manufacturing facility.
  • Maintain an electronic maintenance planning system, assigning tasks to a team of 4-6 direct reports while coordinating with corporate facilities maintenance.
  • Analyze maintenance metrics to enhance efficiency in tool usage, budget adherence, and overall equipment effectiveness.
  • Develop and sustain maintenance programs, including preventative maintenance, spare parts management, and calibration processes.
  • Plan and oversee equipment projects to ensure safe and efficient execution while facilitating communication across work streams.
  • Drive improvements in departmental performance with a focus on environmental health and safety standards and effective contractor management.
  • Lead and mentor maintenance personnel, setting clear expectations and holding team members accountable for their performance.
  • Ensure availability of resources for both routine and emergency manufacturing support while balancing strategic project deliverables.
  • Foster continuous improvement in all maintenance aspects, developing comprehensive equipment plans to minimize unexpected downtime.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to align on short-term and long-term priorities.
  • Evaluate service provider performance to ensure compliance with established standards.
  • Guide your team in analyzing equipment data to identify key issues and promote a culture of continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline such as Engineering; relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role and 5 years in maintenance or engineering within a manufacturing environment.
  • Project management experience and familiarity with regulated manufacturing environments are preferred.
  • Strong skills in instrumentation and electrical systems, along with hands-on troubleshooting and repair experience.
  • Knowledge of maintenance management systems and experience with SAP is advantageous.
  • Ability to train and develop team members in technical skills and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with all organizational levels.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities with a track record of sound decision-making.
  • Experience in continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma is required.
