Accelerator Operations and Physics Research Opportunity

The Argonne National Laboratory's Accelerator Systems Division (ASD) is seeking a highly skilled postdoctoral researcher to join our team for a multi-year appointment. The successful candidate will contribute to the development and deployment of advanced AI/ML methods for accelerator tuning and control, as well as beam and equipment diagnostics.

Research Focus

The primary focus of this research project will be to develop and apply existing machine learning techniques to important tuning and control problems on injectors and storage rings at the Advanced Photon Source (APS). This will involve working closely with colleagues from SLAC and Brookhaven National Laboratories on an ongoing DOE-funded R&D project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deploy advanced AI/ML methods for accelerator tuning and control.
  • Apply existing machine learning techniques to important tuning and control problems on injectors and storage rings.
  • Work closely with colleagues from SLAC and Brookhaven National Laboratories on an ongoing DOE-funded R&D project.
Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

  • A PhD in accelerator physics, physical sciences, mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong programming skills, with proficiency in the Python programming language.
  • Working knowledge of UNIX or Linux.
Preferred Qualifications

Applicants with experience in machine learning and accelerator operation, as well as experience working with complex algorithms and computing clusters, are strongly encouraged to apply.

Compensation and Benefits
