We are seeking a qualified, motivated Archaeological Specialist to join our growing team and support field projects and desktop reviews for various initiatives throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia, as well as nationwide.
Job DescriptionThe primary duty of this position is to provide cultural resource management compliance support for clients across various industries, including road, rail, transit, military, and renewable energy. The successful candidate will assist clients in complying with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and relevant state and local regulations.
This is a full-time position with generous benefits and can be located in one of our offices in Cleveland, Columbus, or Cincinnati.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct fieldwork, including reconnaissance and intensive-level surveys, to identify historic properties for clients across various sectors.
- Assist with fieldwork preparation, perform record checks and research, review historical maps and aerial photographs, compile necessary equipment, and coordinate with GIS analysts and other staff.
- Execute fieldwork, including photography, data management, and coordination with GIS analysts and other staff.
- Conduct archival research and develop historic contexts and other writing deliverables.
- Complete architectural survey forms, determinations of eligibility, and reports that meet the requirements of the State Historic Preservation Office and local, state, and federal clients.
- Work independently on small projects or collaborate with the Cultural Resources team on larger projects.
- Travel to project locations, predominantly in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia, although additional nationwide travel may be requested as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Architectural History, or a closely related field.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Self-starter with excellent writing and communication skills.
- Willingness to work under varied weather conditions.
- Familiarity with field study design and documentation, regulatory frameworks for cultural resource management, and GIS utilities.
The estimated salary for this position is $65,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience.
