Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Technician/Assistant (MHT/Asst) to join our team at Houston Methodist Hospital.

About the Role

This is a dynamic position that requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as you will be working closely with patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to provide top-notch care.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in mental health principles, experience working with diverse populations, and a passion for delivering exceptional patient-centered care.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care services under the supervision of a registered nurse, including vital sign monitoring, medication administration, and treatment implementation.
  • Collaborate with the interprofessional care team to ensure seamless delivery of patient care services, promoting positive outcomes and fostering a culture of safety.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues to address concerns, resolve issues, and provide support.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, contributing to the development and implementation of evidence-based practices.
  • Assist with educational programs, training sessions, and workshops to enhance staff knowledge and skills.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent education.
  • At least two years of acute care hospital experience as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) or certified medical assistant (CMA), or three years of experience as a mental health technician in a psychiatric/substance abuse setting with specialized training and previous experience in crisis intervention and prevention in a hospital setting.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCRISIS) certification from the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI).
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English necessary to perform essential job duties.
Salary and Benefits

We offer an attractive salary package, with estimated compensation ranging from $65,000 to $85,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
