About the Opportunity
This role provides an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned Associate General Counsel to join our team and serve the needs of our rapidly expanding client base. As a key member of our legal department, you will be responsible for providing expert legal advice and guidance to our client facilities in areas such as survey management and general and professional liability. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Providing cultural leadership and modeling our unique culture across the organization.
- Advising field personnel on regulatory issues and directives.
- Drafting, filing, and arguing hearings and briefs before regulatory bodies in California and the U.S. Department of HHS Appeals Board.
- Working closely with client facilities to investigate regulatory findings and drafting IDR/IIDR for State and Federal submission.
- Performing pre-claim evaluation and investigation of pertinent facts and circumstances, including medical records review, witness interviews, and related activities.
- Participating in pre-suit mediations and negotiations.
- Partnering with internal and external litigation counsel regarding case strategy.
- Representing/supporting client facilities and facility employees in administrative or court proceedings, at deposition, or as otherwise requested.
- Providing advice and counsel on health care laws, Medicare/Medicaid regulations, and related State and Federal laws governing the post-acute care setting.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need a strong educational background and relevant experience. Minimum requirements include:
- A J.D. degree from an accredited institution.
- Licensed to practice law in California.
- A minimum of four years' experience in professional negligence and/or elder abuse defense, either as in-house counsel or in a law firm setting.
- Risk management experience is preferred.
- Experience in preparing and managing regulatory appeals.
- Experience in litigating general/professional negligence claims, including discovery management, motion practice, and case evaluation.
- Proven leadership and interpersonal skills, with a strong team orientation.
- Exceptional presentation, writing, and communication skills.

We are committed to providing a competitive compensation package that includes a salary range of between $160k - $200k (dependent on experience) and may be eligible for bonus, medical/dental/vision coverage, company-provided life insurance, 401(k) with company match, and sick/vacation plans.
