Locksmith - Key Shop Department

UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a skilled and experienced Locksmith to join their Key Shop department. This full-time position requires minimal supervision to provide journeyman locksmith skills for lock and key services involving installation, maintenance, and repair of locks and making of keys throughout all UT Southwestern campus buildings.
Work Location: Dallas Campus, with assistance to other locations as necessary.
Shift Requirement: 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with on-call, 24/7, for one week every five weeks or as needed.
Minimum Experience and Education Requirements- Requires graduation from high school or vocational school.
- Requires three (3) years of work experience as journeyman locksmith in a commercial institution or healthcare setting.
- State of Texas Locksmith license preferred, but not required.
- Assists in preparing plans and specifications for lock security systems, coordinating with departments concerned in determining kinds of controls required for security purposes and monitors transition from former key system to new one.
- Maintains established key control systems, making changes when necessary either by issuing new keys or recoding locks.
- Makes keys for padlocks, doors, cabinets, lockers, and desks, selecting blanks, cutting and fitting keys to locks.
- Unlocks locks when keys are lost or broken.
- Repairs and renovates locks on a periodic basis or as needed.
- Installs, maintains, adjusts, services, and resets all types of locks and locking equipment.
- Adjusts and installs door closures and hinges.
- Builds key tree systems for various renovations and projects.
- Develops new master systems as needed for security purposes.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Work is performed primarily in indoor and outdoor areas.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimum require prior approval of Vice President for Human Resources Administration or his/her designee.
This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code *51.215, which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information.
