Harm Reduction Specialist

Southern Tier AIDS Program, Inc. is seeking a full-time Harm Reduction Specialist in our Ithaca office to provide essential services to participants of the Syringe Exchange Program.
Key Responsibilities:- Coordinate and execute outreach and education to promote SEP programming and harm reduction services.
- Offer low-threshold syringe exchange services, as well as higher threshold activities to participants, including risk assessment, HIV/HCV testing, individual/group education, and linkage/referral services.
- Provide services to participants in outlying areas, making special arrangements for syringe exchange services when necessary.
This role requires strong interpersonal skills, public speaking and presentation skills, computer literacy, and organizational abilities. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of one year working in human services, preferably in directly related fields like case management, syringe exchange, or substance use treatment. Experience serving individuals with Substance Use Disorder (SUD) or Opiate Use Disorder (OUD) diagnosis is highly preferred.
Compensation and Benefits:The salary for this position is $17.00 per hour for 35 hours per week, with potential variations based on experience. Requirements:- High School Diploma/GED and two years of relevant human service experience, or an Associate's Degree in Health, Education, Social Work, Human Service, Liberal Arts, or a related field and one year of experience in a human services field.
- Minimum of one year working human services required; experience in directly related fields strongly preferred.
- Computer literacy, organizational skills, public speaking and presentation skills, strong interpersonal skills, and knowledge and acceptance of the Harm Reduction philosophy are required.
Physical demands include general office duties: sitting, standing, light lifting. This individual will conduct educational programs in the community, carrying educational presentation materials.
