Job Summary

This position is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Radiologist and Musculoskeletal Radiology Specialist to join the Veterans Affairs team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for interpreting general radiology examinations, performing and interpreting diagnostic fluoroscopic studies, and interpreting CT and MRI examinations. You will also be responsible for participating in the development of new protocols and imaging techniques, and for generating reports that contain pertinent findings and measurements.

Responsibilities

Interpret general radiology examinations, including plain film, CT, and MRI
Perform and interpret diagnostic fluoroscopic studies, including those with and without contrast material
Participate in the development of new protocols and imaging techniques
Generate reports that contain pertinent findings and measurements, a description of normal and abnormal structures, discussion of differential diagnoses, recommendations, and impression
Issue timely radiology reports
Obtain informed consent
Physically examine veterans when required for imaging purposes
Write notes in the electronic medical record when clinically appropriate
Communicate critical findings according to medical center policy
Participate in quality management activities, such as film quality review, peer review, and other performance improvement activities
Prepare for and participate in various inspections
Review exam requests for appropriateness
Prescribe exam protocols and modify as needed for specific clinical indications
Consult with providers on various aspects of radiology, such as exam selection, review of results, etc.
Participate in various local, VISN, and VHA multidisciplinary and interdepartmental conferences
Teach students and residents
Participate in the coordination of patient care: contact clinical providers as relevant to assure effective patient care, discuss evaluation, management, follow-up, and other aspects of coordinated, patient-centered care
Provide clinical oversight of medication administration, including contrast, preps, and other medications relevant to the radiology procedures
Provide technical image quality feedback to technologists
Utilize abnormal diagnostic codes appropriately and communicate/documents verbal notification of results when required
Participate in research programs

Requirements

United States citizenship
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
Residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
Proficiency in spoken and written English
Board certification/eligible in the specialty/sub-specialty indicated in the announcement

Work Schedule

8am-4:30pm (Full-Time - Onsite position. Work schedule is variable and may be discussed with hiring manager.)
