The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) plays a vital role in the city's evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives to create a smaller jail system without compromising public safety.

We are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative individual to join our Policy & Procedures Unit as the Director of Policy Administration. In this role, you will play a key leadership position overseeing a team of analysts and technical writers dedicated to improving our policy management system.

Job Description

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

">
  • ">
  • Supervising a dedicated team of policy analysts, researchers, and advisors;">
  • Reviewing, revising, and editing all drafts of directives by authors throughout the Department;">
  • Working closely with staff at all ranks, including senior leadership;">
  • Managing intra-agency workflows to ensure all policy is up-to-date and conforms to existing laws and standards;">
  • Responding to internal and external requests regarding policy matters;">
  • Maintaining an archive of Departmental directives and orders;">
  • Developing innovative methods and structures to effectively manage all Departmental policy documents;">
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies;">
  • Ensuring policy compliance with regulations at the local, state, and federal levels, as well as correctional best practices and industry standards;">
  • Making informed recommendations to align policy and program efforts with Departmental priorities;">
  • Coordinating and liaising internal stakeholders to ensure policy objectives are achieved;">
  • Assessing current policy documents for revision or update based on regulatory oversight or legislative action;">
  • Developing expertise in jail operations, protocols, and procedures;">
  • Preparing reports, memoranda, presentations, or other methods of communication related to policy implementation;">
  • Identifying and escalating issues and risks to appropriate stakeholders and preparing relevant reports/documentation;">
  • Attending and leading meetings on behalf of the Executive Director;">
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with a wide range of individuals, including internal and external stakeholders;">
  • Performing special projects and related duties as assigned.">

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • ">
  • A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization;">
  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization;">
  • Or equivalent education and/or experience that meets the requirements listed above.">

Estimated Salary: $120,000 - $150,000 per year
