Helen Keller Services is a leading organization dedicated to empowering individuals with DeafBlindness and combined hearing and vision loss. We are seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to join our team in a part-time capacity.

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Sign Language Interpreter to provide interpreting services to consumers, staff, and outside visitors as needed. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in American Sign Language and Pro-Tactile and/or adaptation to accessible Communication.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide high-quality interpreting services in various settings
  • Instruct staff and students in American Sign Language and related skills
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders through training and education
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit regular reports to supervisors
  • Participate in meetings to address unique student issues and develop collaborative solutions

This role requires flexibility, as the interpreter may be required to work evenings or travel to field sites, meetings, or other events as needed. A personal vehicle may be used occasionally, and occasional travel may be involved.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree
  • IPT (Interpreting Training Program) certification and RID/NAD NIC Knowledge test passed
  • At least two years of experience working with individuals who are DeafBlind and/or deaf-visually impaired
  • RID/NAD NIC certification within five years of employment
