This position is part of the Test Engineering organization at Proterra Inc. and will provide comprehensive technical support to the company's Technology Lab.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Battery Test Engineering team to maintain industrial lab equipment and tools used for high voltage battery pack testing.

About the Role

  • Perform diversified duties to service and maintain test lab equipment, including environmental chambers, chillers, and shaker tables.
  • Maintain acceptable performance standards for assembly, quality, documentation, and housekeeping while upholding high safety standards.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot lab equipment, perform unscheduled repairs, and work with test engineers and equipment vendors to setup a robust preventive maintenance program.
  • Work with equipment vendors and outside service technicians for maintenance or repair of equipment that can't be performed in-house.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and schematics to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Manage the calibration of tools, gauges, multimeters, and equipment.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties.
  • Perform duties including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting, and repair of test lab equipment.
  • Build mechanical and electrical components into assemblies based on blueprint specifications and/or drawings.

You will report to the Technology Lab Supervisor and collaborate with other Testing and Validation team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA, and other manufacturing facility in Los Angeles, CA.

Your Experience Includes

  • Equivalent or relevant experience in a technical field.
  • 4+ years of Mechanical or Electrical Technician experience, preferably in industrial equipment maintenance or field service.
  • Experience with troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs of refrigeration and HVAC systems.
  • Hands-on structural, mechanical, plumbing, and AC/DC voltage skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that may include the following applications: Microsoft Office, Outlook, Smartsheet, Jira, or similar applications.
  • Proficient with electronic testing, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (i.e., multi-meter, manifold gauges, etc.).

Physical Demands

  • May work various shifts as needed; may be requested to travel to different locations.
  • Lifting up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds.
  • Able to walk, stand, crouch, bench, kneel, lift, carry, and reach as needed in large and tight spaces.
  • Good eye/hand coordination and ability to identify color variations, depth perceptions, and close or distance visual items.
  • Manual dexterity with occasional repetitive finger motion.

Environmental Demands

  • Ability to work in an industrial/lab environment with extreme heat and cold conditions.
  • Wear protective clothing or respiratory protective equipment.
  • Works with irritant chemicals, gases, etc.
