Job Title: Sign Language Interpreter

Job Summary:

The Sign Language Interpreter provides sign language interpretation, transliteration, and transcription services for students with hearing disabilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides communication access services to students with hearing disabilities during lectures, required group meetings, and in other required academic environments.
  • Cleans up and prepares transcripts for students.
  • Prepares for assignments by reviewing texts, presentations, and other course materials and establishing appropriate vocabulary with students.
  • Completes professional development activities to meet the minimum number of continuing educational units required to maintain certification or licensing.
  • Attends departmental staff meetings and staff development activities.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Attend class with students to interpret lectures and other course material.
  • Assist the Disability Services for Students office (DSS) with the coordination of services as requested by students.
  • Help lead the Office's outreach program.
  • Provide targeted training to different campus constituents.
  • Supports other Student Engagement offices with their retention and student support efforts.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education – High school diploma or GED
  • Experience – Two years of related experience in American Sign Language interpretation.

Licensing / Professional Certification:

Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Physical Requirements:

General Office Environment.

This position generally does not supervise employees.

Other Requirements:

  • Evening and weekend work may be required.

Salary: $19.06/hourly
