Veterinary Care Specialist

Purdue University's Veterinary Hospital is seeking a skilled Veterinary Assistant to join our Dermatology team. Key responsibilities include assisting with patient appointments and procedures, setting up equipment, organizing diagnostic samples, and managing prescriptions. Maintaining a clean environment and adhering to biosecurity protocols are essential in this role. Additionally, the successful candidate will assist the Behavior department with patient evaluations and medication management as needed.
In This Role:
The Senior Veterinary Assistant will be responsible for maintaining a clean and well-stocked service area, providing basic animal care needs, and enabling the Registered Veterinary Technician team to work efficiently to complete orders and patient treatments. This position requires proficiency in patient restraint, hospital cleaning protocols, and hospital treatment protocols to anticipate needs. Senior Veterinary Assistants will have the skills and training necessary to work independently on tasks and help train newly hired Assistants, as well as participate in teaching basic restraint and husbandry skills to both veterinary and veterinary nursing students. Assignment to other areas of the hospital may be required, as well as holiday rotation and possible participation in on-call coverage.

Required:
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Three years of experience in a veterinary hospital.
- Ability to listen to and follow both verbal and written directions.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to read and write in English.
- Confidence around domestic animals.
- Specialty veterinary experience.
- NAVTA Veterinary Assistant certification.
