Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant I Certified to join our team at UNC Health. As a Medical Assistant I Certified, you will provide routine clinical and administrative support to providers and other healthcare team members in an outpatient clinic setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform rooming and intake process, collecting and documenting patient data, including vital signs, height, weight, and medical history.
  • Collect patient and family data, including medical and social history, and review patient's current medication list, allergies, and preferred pharmacy.
  • Assist providers as directed during treatments, examinations, and procedures, and collect specimens and perform phlebotomy.
  • Administer medications under the direction of a provider and perform tests, such as EKG and eye exams, under the direction of a provider.
  • Review patient records to determine whether patients require routine health screenings and ensure exam/procedure rooms contain appropriate supplies, equipment, forms, and educational materials.
  • Provide patients with after-visit, follow-up, self-care, or procedural instructions and/or educational materials as directed.
  • Prepare, clean, stock, and maintain exam and treatment rooms, and clean and sterilize instruments.
  • Assist with patient registration, check-in/check-out, appointment scheduling, and scheduling of tests and treatments, and referrals.
  • Answer clinic telephone and assist with in-basket under the direction of a provider or nurse, and assist in emergency situations as directed by a provider or nurse.
Requirements
  • Medical Assistant certification by either the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Association of Health Professionals (NRCMA), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA).
  • Basic Life Support Certification from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required.
  • Prior medical assistant or medical assistant externship experience preferred.
